Exploding Stars

Exploding Stars - Saundra Cindrich

Instructor Contact: paprpcr@gmail.com 801-473-8711

Class Description: This unusual block looks like a star exploding! I’ve used many light batik backgrounds and many patterned (colored) batiks for the stars. This would be wonderful in any fabric combination. Christmas? Patriotic? Bright solids? And of course, you could make your stars from background fabric surrounded by color.

Project Size: This is a 12" block, and I have made several quilts with 13 blocks and one that was king size.

When: Thursday, June 11 - 2:00 to 5:00 pm

Skill level: Beginner

Pattern/Kit Fee: $10

Supplies/Fabric Requirements:
Several backgrounds and print fabrics. Fat quarters work well to make the blocks. To make a quilt with 13 blocks you will need about 2 yards of background for setting triangles and binding. I have made this quilt as a king size and of course used much more fabric. When I start a project that I don't have a pre-planned size in mind I make sure I have lots of fabrics and know I can always supplement since it is a scrappy quilt. This is particularly useful if I am using just one fabric for the background. For that reason I love Kona colors or Moda Bella Solids because the color stays the same through many dye lots.

Rotary cutter (with sharp blade) and mat

A quarter inch foot for your machine

Instructor bio:

I’d rather sew than cook or clean or weed the garden. I’d rather pet my fabric than a dog. I become almost giddy in a fabric store—been like that since 1994. I love to teach quilting classes more than eating ice cream—and I really do like ice cream! Nothing makes me happier than seeing students in my classes have success in whatever project they are working on.
