36: 36. Curves Ahead! - Saundra Cindrich - Friday

Class Description
When you are driving your sewing machine do you always take the route that has no curves? Does curved piecing scare you to death? No more! I have a new technique that makes sewing curves so easy that you will be zipping around them in a flash. The quilts you can make will be breathtaking but not in a scary way!

Dimensions
47 x 65

Pattern/Kit Fee
None
Supplies/Fabric Requirements:

I have made this block so many times I've lost count! It is just that much fun and satisfying to make! I’ve made these blocks with a variety of light and colored batiks and also in bright bold prints with a solid background. This block would make a great two color quilt if that is your fancy. It is a fat quarter friendly block and with each cutting you’ll get two blocks, a positive and a negative. Since I've never made a quilt using only two colors of the SAME fabrics I really don't know how much fabric to tell you to buy for this kind. It has been made with many different fabrics in ONE colorway and it is stunning. Please consider several fabrics in both light and dark but mostly come and learn how easy it is to do curved piecing. If you want to use ONE background fabric I'd suggest either a Kona Cotton solid or a Moda Bella Solid because these are the same from dye lot to dye lot and you can always buy more safely.

You will need a set of acrylic templates for the blocks. Look for winding ways quilt templates on Amazon. They come in several sizes. All my quilts have used the 8-1/2" size. Marti Michel's templates are $16.52. Another brand that I have purchased is Honeysew for $12.90. I can't see any difference in them.

Supplies:

Rotary cutter (with sharp blade )and  mat

A quarter inch foot for your machine

Long, thin glass headed pins Please not the yellow plastic pins often sold as quilting pins. They are not sharp and they are not thin. I'll share mine if necessary!

Glue I prefer Roxanne's Glue-Baste-It. A good glue stick has worked well for some people.

You won't be using much glue since I will be teaching a new technique for assembling the block units.

Further instructions regarding class preparation will be emailed by your instructor after registration.

Instructor Bio:
I'd rather sew than cook or clean or weed the garden. I'd rather pet my fabric than a dog. I become almost giddy in a fabric store--been like that since 1994. I love to teach quilting classes more than eating ice cream--and I really do like ice cream! Nothing makes me happier than seeing students in my classes have success in whatever project they are working on.
